How to improve your business? The impact of a Coach.

Alternative Text

Day by day we work long hours in our business. We think about what products we can launch to increase sales, how we can improve service, what investments are necessary, how can we reduce costs, and much more. However, we rarely think about investing in ourselves, the main engine to generate ideas and achieve results.

On many occasions we have the idea, the motivation, the ability and the talent to achieve what we set out to do. But what happens to us that we do not reach most or all of our goals? Let's make an analogy with a high performance athlete. He trains daily, exercises, analyzes his results and identifies where he needs to improve, as he prepares for each challenge. However, the athlete, unlike the common entrepreneur, has an additional help: a coach.

A coach, who, although he does not participate directly in the challenge, and does not execute the plays on the field, is responsible for accompanying, instructing and training the athlete with the objective of developing specific skills and achieving the goals. Day by day he works with the athlete making adjustments and giving timely reminders to maximize performance. If not having a coach is unthinkable in sports, why does it have to be any different in business?

We might originally think that the coach is necessary for beginners, but didn't Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan have coaches? Two of the best players in NBA history. In business there are many examples, and a growing trend to invest in a coach for the development of top executives. A study published in a major journal reported that managers (31) who participated in management training achieved a 22.4% increase in productivity. However, a second group that was coached after training obtained an 88% increase in productivity.

In another study, an executive coach program yielded a return of $ 7.90 for every $ 1.00 invested in the program.

What are some of the uses of a coach?

  • Support individual performance change.
  • Provide adequate support to facilitate change of roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide a suitable framework to deal with a specific problem or challenge.
  • Support in the development of goals, their clarification and the development of strategies to achieve them.

Do you want to know if you are ready or in need of a coach? Reflect on the following:

  • Am I ready to grow personally and professionally?
  • Am I ready to try new ideas and not continue what has not worked for me in the past?
  • Am I ready to take action on my company vision?
  • Am I ready to use my time and money more efficiently?

If you are ready for the next level, don't wait any longer, do like company leaders: train, strengthen your skills and have a coach by your side to help you focus and achieve your goals. At Strategic Minds we work side by side executive level leaders in the implementation of the strategy we develop. If you want to see how we can help you, write to us at or call us at 787.782.8300.
